High schooler Adin Lohry was ready to turn pro in 1989. It didn't hurt that the team to come calling was the team he hoped to play for as a kid, the Yankees, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

"I didn't care who would have drafted me," Lohry told The Sentinel. ''I would have probably signed with anybody. But they made it easy. They met all my demands, and they made it possible to go to college later."

Lohry went on to a pro career that spanned six seasons. He made AA, but he didn't make it higher.

His pro career began that year in 1989, taken by the Yankees in the fourth round of the draft out of Winter Park High School in Florida.

Lohry started with the Yankees in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He hit .266 in 38 games. He picked up two hits in an August game. He then moved to short-season Oneonta for 1990. The catcher hit .197 there.

Lohry made high-A Fort Lauderdale for 30 games in 1991. He got 52 games at high-A Prince William in 1992. Those 57 games were the most Lohry saw in a season in his career. He pinch hit in an August game and scored the winning run.

Lohry played in two more seasons. He played at high-A San Bernardino in 1993 and 1994. In 1994, he also got into 21 games at AA Albany-Colonie. He hit .211 over 53 total games that season, ending his career.

Jim Voutour spent brief time in pros, career in policing

Playing for SUNY Brockport in western New York, Jim Voutour had his sights set on the pros. And, if the pros didn't work out, business finance, he told The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle in April 1987. "That's the dream for anybody," Voutour told The Democrat and Chronicle then of pro baseball. "But I'm not depending on dropping out and going professional." Voutour ended up realizing, if briefly, his goal of playing pro baseball . But his post-playing career ended up not being in business finance. It ended up being in law enforcement. Voutour ultimately became a sheriff's deputy in Niagara County, New York, where he grew up. By 2008, he'd risen through the ranks to run for the top job himself, Niagara County Sheriff. And he won. Dean Tatarian hit Yankee Stadium home run; Played six pro seasons, made AAA, never made bigs

The Minnesota Twins significantly upped their bonus offer to Queens high schooler Dean Tatarian in 1987, his father reported to The New York Daily News .  Tatarian's father, who also served as the young player's coach, cited one recent home run in particular with helping seal the deal, according to The Daily News . "I think when he hit the ball out of Yankee Stadium in the Daily News All-Star doubleheader last week, that had a lot to do with it," father Ed Tatarian told The Daily News . "He's worked hard for this. He wants to make professional baseball his livelihood. Now's the time for him to give it a try." Dean Tatarian went on to play in six professional seasons. Gordy Farmer helped Arizona State, saw 5 seasons, high-A

Arizona State's Gordy Farmer came on in relief in this must-win 1988 College World Series game and he proceeded to have perhaps his best outing of the year, The Arizona Republic wrote . Farmer went 2.2 innings of relief, giving up one hit and striking out three, allowing his team time to get the win against Wichita State and stay alive, The Republic wrote . "Gordy came in when they still were totally in control of the game and handled it magnificently," coach Jim Brock told The Republic . "That's the best slider, curveball, slurve ... whatever you want to call it, that we've had at ASU." By that point, Farmer had already been drafted, and he soon signed. Max Vejar came from baseball city, saw 13 pro outings

Max Vejar 's listed hometown of Hermosillo, Mexico, is a baseball city. It has a team in the Mexican Pacific League called the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, a club that has won 17 league titles . It also boasts at least 10 major leaguers as hailing from it.  When Vejar played, though, only one Hermosillo native had made the majors, Francisco Barrios. Vejar would not go on to be the second.  Vejar's career lasted just a single season. He spent that season in the rookie Gulf Coast League .  Vejar's career began and ended in 1990, signed by the Astros as an undrafted free agent out of Hermosillo. John Vandemark gained new focus, saw 9 seasons, high-A

John Vandemark started his career with two seasons in the Astros system, but he didn't appreciate his position, The Fargo Forum wrote later. Instead, he left baseball and soon joined the Marines .  "Back then they couldn't pay me enough to play," Vandemark told The Forum . "Now I'd pay them to play." Vandemark spoke to The Forum in June 1998, having resumed his pro career, first in affiliated ball then in independent ball, with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.  Overall, Vandemark saw nine pro seasons. He topped out at high-A . Vandemark's career began in 1990, taken by the Astros in the 62nd round of the previous year's draft out of Lockport High School in Lockport, New York.
